Learning and Subject information

Our Learning Cycle

At our school, every lesson is built around our Learning Cycle. This approach helps students understand new ideas confidently and securely.

We use principles from Cognitive Load Theory, a research‑based model that ensures our students focus on the most important knowledge and skills without becoming overwhelmed. By breaking learning into manageable steps, students build strong foundations in each subject and feel confident about their progress.

All of our teaching — including lesson planning, homework and classroom activities — follows this structure.

Regular, low‑stakes checks on learning are built into our lessons so that students feel confident about assessments. These short activities help teachers understand what students can do, what they need next, and how we can support them to improve. Over time, students see assessment as a normal part of learning rather than something to worry about.

We believe this consistent, research‑led approach is a key reason our students achieve well and feel secure in their learning.
