Careers Support
Robert Prosser – Careers Adviser
careers@ngate.org.uk
I provide a career guidance service at least one day per week for Northgate students and their parents or carers. I am in school on Thursdays each week, and on other days by arrangement with the school.
In the autumn and spring terms, I have appointments with Year 11 pupils to help them make informed decisions about their future options and for when they leave school. All young people leaving school have to be in education, working in an apprenticeship or in employment with training, up to the age of eighteen.
The earlier you start exploring your options, the better prepared you are by Year 11.
I am available to see students from Year 7 upwards who want to explore their career ideas and I help learners with their option choices in Year 9.
If a student, parent or carer would like to contact me to arrange a careers appointment, please email me on careers@ngate.org.uk. Students can drop in to see me during lunch and break times in the Careers Office to arrange an appointment or ask a question. Please come to the Careers Office, which is in the corridor to the left of the main entrance to the Science block.
I attend a number of parents evenings and I organise the Post 16 Options evening in September. I am very happy to talk to students and families at these events.

We run a series of careers assemblies, and plan use of curriculum time, for individual year groups from year 7 to 11 to facilitate students’ knowledge of available pathways. Pupils in Years 8 and 9 have encounters with providers, employers and the University of East Anglia, these are planned to take place in the Spring term. During years 10 and 11 students have encounters with providers, employers and the University of East Anglia. In Year 10 these are planned to take place in the Spring and Summer terms; our students also visit the Norfolk Careers Fair meeting a wide range of providers and employers. Our year 11 students have the opportunity to meet providers and employers with their parents at the High school to support their decisions on post-16 options during the Autumn term.
If a provider would like more information please contact Mr J Atkin.
Premises and facilities The school will make the hall and classrooms or private meeting rooms available for discussions between the provider and students, as appropriate to the activity. The school will also make available projectors and other specialist equipment to support provider presentations. This will all need to be discussed and agreed in advance of the visit.
Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature at the school reception.
Below you will find a list of some of the providers who have been invited into the school.
