In our latest staff interview, Colette, Year 8, spoke to Miss Gostic, a member of the History Department. Here’s what she had to say in response to Robyn’s questions.
Have you had any other jobs?
Yes, I was a carer and I used to work in a museum
Apart from History, what was your favourite subject at school?
My favourite subjects were history and English.
What’s your favourite era from history, to teach or to find out about?
My favourite era to find out about is the Tudors because they all went around chopping everyone’s heads off. My favourite era to teach is the black death.
Tell us something about you that others may not know?
I enjoy cooking and I have two cats.
What is your favourite song or favourite artist?
I love some older classics like Elton John and Fleetwood Mac but I’ve also been enjoying listening to Raye and Little Simz recently
You run a Well-being Wednesday club, what does it involve?
Wellbeing Wednesday is a chill and safe space for all year groups to have a chat, watch a movie and do some well-being colouring or puzzles.
What’s your favourite animal and do you have any pets?
I think my favourite animal is a cat and I have two – Ralph and Mavis, both furry bundles of trouble.
Who is your favourite historical figure and why?
Definitely Ann Boleyn because she’s very controversial in terms of her reputation through time and I’ve been inspired by Anne Boleyn: 500 Years of Lies by Hayley Nolan to challenge the typical view of her!
What is the best thing about being a teacher?
The best thing about being a teacher is seeing the way students’ faces light up when they do something they thought was unachievable for them (and being the person who helped them do it!)
Can you describe Northgate in 3 words?
Friendly, inclusive and social
Thank you to Miss Gostic for taking the time to answer the questions and to Colette for asking them. We look forward to seeing which member of staff is interviewed next.
